Chrome Extension
The Laxis Chrome extension adds a live transcript panel to Google Meet, and to Zoom and Microsoft Teams when you join them in the browser. It reads the captions the meeting platform already generates, so no bot joins your call and nothing is recorded from your microphone or camera.
When you leave the meeting, Laxis saves the transcript and your notes to your account and opens the meeting in the Laxis web app, where the AI summary is generated.
Install and sign in
Install the extension
Open the Chrome Web Store, search for Laxis, and click Add to Chrome. The listing is called "Laxis: AI Note Taker & Live Transcription for Google Meet, Zoom & Teams". The extension needs Chrome 111 or later.
Sign in (recommended)
After installing, a Laxis sign-up page opens. Sign in or create an account. You can also sign in later with Log in in the panel, or from the panel's Settings → Sign In.
Join a meeting
Open a Google Meet link. The Laxis panel appears on the page automatically, even before you join. Once you're in the meeting, the transcript starts on its own.
Do I have to sign in?
No, captions are captured even when you're signed out, but they stay only in your browser. Sign in to save every transcript to your account automatically, and to use Live Notes, AI chat, and AI summaries. If you sign in again after capturing a meeting while signed out, Laxis uploads that transcript for you (within 24 hours, in the same browser session).
Use it with Zoom and Microsoft Teams
Google Meet works right away. Zoom and Teams need a one-time permission, so Chrome can let Laxis run on those sites:
Open the Laxis settings
On any Google Meet page, click the gear (Settings) in the Laxis panel. You can also just click the Laxis icon in Chrome's toolbar.
Allow Zoom and Teams
Under Allow Zoom and Teams ("Meet keeps working. Zoom and Teams start after you allow access."), click Allow Zoom and Teams, then approve Chrome's permission prompt.
Join from the browser
Join your Zoom meeting with Join from your browser, or open Teams on the web (teams.microsoft.com or teams.live.com). Any open Zoom or Teams tabs reload so the panel can appear.
Desktop apps aren't supported
The extension works only in the browser. If you join from the Zoom or Teams desktop app, use the Laxis Desktop App instead.
Laxis turns on the platform's captions for you. If the meeting organizer or your company's admin has disabled captions, there's nothing for Laxis to read.
The Laxis panel
The panel floats over your meeting. Drag it by the header or logo, resize it from the corner (300 to 600 pixels wide), and it remembers where you left it.
Header (left to right):
- CC toggle: starts or stops caption capture. A red dot means captions are arriving. Hover it to see the status, for example "Receiving captions".
- Language chip (for example EN): the spoken language of the meeting. See Spoken language.
- Download transcript: save a file of the transcript.
- Settings (gear) and Minimize.
When the panel is narrow, some header buttons move into More tools (⋯).
Tabs at the bottom: Transcripts, Notes, and Chat.
Meeting title: Laxis uses the meeting's name from the platform (or Meeting_YYYYMMDD_HHMM if it can't find one). Click the title to rename it.
Minimize: collapses the panel into a slim vertical bar with Expand, Notes, the CC toggle, and Settings (or a red Login chip if you're signed out).
Where did Google Meet's own captions go?
While Laxis is capturing, it hides the platform's caption bar so the text isn't shown twice. Turn off Laxis's CC toggle to see Meet's captions again.
Transcripts tab
- Each paragraph shows the speaker's name and the time. Consecutive lines from the same speaker are grouped (turn this off in Settings → Group consecutive captions by speaker).
- Speaker names come from the meeting's participant list. Unknown speakers appear as "Speaker".
- Use the funnel icon next to the meeting title to filter the transcript: All, Transcript Only, Highlights, or Images (newest version).
- A very long meeting stops capturing at 15,000 captions. Download the transcript before starting another meeting if you reach that limit.
Highlight key moments
Newest version: click Highlight below the transcript to mark the whole current paragraph in gold with one click. While people are talking, that's the paragraph being transcribed. You can also click the bookmark icon at the right of any paragraph to mark it, and click it again to remove the highlight. Each action offers Undo. See Highlights & Meeting Images.
Version 4.6.1: hover a paragraph and click one of the three flags at its top-right corner (by default Important, Follow up, and Action Item; if you're signed in they use your account's Quick Note topics). Click the same flag again to remove it.
Highlights are saved with the meeting, appear in the Laxis web app, and can be included in downloads.
Screenshots (newest version)
Click Screenshot below the transcript to save what's on screen into the transcript, at that moment in the meeting. If someone is sharing their screen in Meet or Teams, Laxis captures it instantly. Otherwise, Chrome asks you to choose a tab, window, or screen. Screenshots need a signed-in Premium or Business account (up to 10 or 20 per meeting).
Notes tab
Type your own notes right in the Notes tab. They're formatted as you type (headings, bold, lists, links), save automatically, and are combined with the transcript when your AI summary is generated. Notes are available on every plan.
Live Note (Premium)
On Premium and Business, Laxis writes Live Notes for you during the meeting: the first after about 40 seconds of captions, then every 5 minutes. Each is added under a heading like "AI live note · 10:42" and never overwrites what you typed. When the panel is minimized, a dot on the Notes button tells you a new Live Note arrived.
On the Basic plan, you'll see Let AI take notes for you with an Upgrade to Premium button. You can still write your own notes. If you just upgraded, click Already upgraded? Refresh.
Chat tab (Premium)
Ask questions about the meeting while it's still going, for example with the suggestions What have we decided?, What are the next steps?, or Summarize the discussion so far. Laxis answers from the transcript so far and your notes. Chat answers aren't saved after you leave the page. On the Basic plan, the Chat tab shows an Upgrade to Premium button.
Spoken language
Click the round language chip in the header (for example EN) to open Spoken language and choose the language people are speaking. Laxis asks the meeting platform to switch its captions to that language and shows a confirmation such as "English confirmed by the meeting platform" when it's done.
- The languages offered depend on the meeting platform. If Laxis can't read the platform's own list, it shows a built-in list (10 languages on Meet, 8 on Zoom, 9 on Teams).
- If the platform doesn't confirm within 20 seconds, Laxis asks you to select the language in the meeting platform's own caption settings.
- This sets the spoken language. It doesn't translate the meeting.
Saving, summaries, and downloads
- Autosave: when you're signed in, the transcript and your notes are saved to your Laxis account every 5 minutes and when the meeting ends. Uploaded transcripts use your plan's transcription minutes.
- After the meeting: when you leave the call using the platform's Leave or Hang up button, Laxis saves the final transcript and opens the meeting in the Laxis web app, where the AI summary is generated (including your notes). The meeting also appears in your meetings list on every Laxis app.
- Download a file: click Download transcript in the header, choose a File Type (Word, PDF, or Text), choose whether to include Highlights and Timestamps, then click Download. In version 4.6.1, the file type list also includes Laxis Cloud (saves to your account and opens the meeting) and an Auto-save to cloud option, which is on by default.
Leave with the Leave button
Closing the tab instead of leaving the call skips the final upload, and your summary won't open automatically. Your transcript is still saved up to the last 5-minute autosave.
Settings
Click the gear in the panel to open Settings:
- Account: your plan, minutes used this month, and a button to upgrade or manage your plan. Sign In or Sign Out.
- Captions: Group consecutive captions by speaker.
- Appearance: Interface language (English, 简体中文, 繁體中文, Français, Español, 日本語, Deutsch, Português, 한국어, Italiano) and Light / Dark theme (dark by default).
- Allow Zoom and Teams: shown until you've given permission.
Troubleshooting
The panel doesn't appear on Zoom or Teams. Allow Zoom and Teams in Settings (see above), and make sure you joined from the browser, not the desktop app.
No captions are captured. Check that the CC toggle is on. If its tooltip says "Connection unavailable. Reload this meeting tab.", reload the tab (ideally before joining). If nothing arrives, turn on the platform's own captions. Laxis then switches to reading on-screen captions and shows "Using on-screen captions. Keep the meeting platform's captions enabled."
The text is in the wrong language or garbled. Choose the correct spoken language.
The panel disappeared after an update. Chrome updated Laxis mid-meeting. Your transcript is saved locally: reload the tab to continue and upload it.
I see "Log in to autosave every transcript to your account". You're signed out. Click Log in. Transcripts captured while signed out upload once you sign in again in the same browser session.
Clicking the Laxis toolbar icon reloaded my Zoom or Teams tab. That's expected: the toolbar icon asks Chrome for Zoom and Teams access, and reloads the tab after you approve.
I ran out of minutes. Cloud saving stops until your minutes reset. Download each transcript before you leave the meeting, or upgrade your plan.
